Support Plummets for Restrictions on Gun Rights

From NJ Voices by Scott L. Bach: Four different polls recently point to declining support for gun restrictions as the answer to crime. In October, a Gallup poll found that fewer Americans than ever favor handgun bans, based on Gallup's 49 year history of polling on the issue. Support fell from a high of 60% in 1959 to a low of less than 30% in 2008. The same trend repeats itself in a question on whether more restrictions are needed on the sales of all firearms, not just handguns...

The Trolls Among Us

From The New York Times by Mattathias Schwartz: In the late 1980s, Internet users adopted the word “troll” to denote someone who intentionally disrupts online communities. Early trolling was relatively innocuous, taking place inside of small, single-topic Usenet groups. The trolls employed what the M.I.T. professor Judith Donath calls a “pseudo-naïve” tactic, asking stupid questions and seeing who would rise to the bait. The game was to find out who would see through this stereotypical newbie behavior, and who would fall for it. As one guide to trolldom puts it, “If you don’t fall for the joke, you get to be in on it.”

New Jersey Windsurfing Association

New Jersey Windsurfing Association is run totally by boardheads, for boardheads. The Board of Directors, who tirelessly give their time, would much rather be sailing than worrying about mailing lists, newsletters, and account balances. Many of them have to take precious vacation time to meet with government officials. It is very unusual for Board of Directors to show up at an evening board meeting with dry hair because they're always shredding up to the last minute before.
